Police filed felony charges Tuesday against a man and woman after an attempted robbery at a McDonald’s led to a SWAT response and two arrests in Xenia.

Shawn Smith Jr., 28, of Xenia is charged with aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence and Rebecca Lauren Shepherd, 22, also of Xenia, was charged with complicity to aggravated robbery. Both had their bonds set at $250,000 during their video arraignments in Xenia Municipal Court.

Police were called to a reported robbery at the McDonald’s at 1645 N. Detroit St. just before midnight Saturday, according to the Xenia Police Division.

Police say Smith was armed when he demanded that employees open the safe. However, his attempt to rob the business was unsuccessful and he fled.

Shepherd reportedly aided Smith by driving him to and from the area of the crime, Xenia police said.
